coronavirus nursing home

Mum is in a nursing home, has been for last six monthes, she has advanced colon cancer has lived with me for four years  with no care at home previous to nursing home due to her mobility and pain issues and total bowel obstruction at house foecal vomit, she is now been given syringe driver and we cannot visit home because there is coronavirus at nursing home and  i have 4 young grandchildren  and am worried about making patients and staff ill at nursing home or bringing virus into my home  all this after mum losing her funding for nursing home twice she now has it back they seem to give you six weeks to die and if you live they take away funding i am glad mum is in home because 24 hour care does not work in community in my experience and hospice is always full . i feel very guilty not visiting but even mum is saying she does not want any of the family to get coronavirus i just hope her death will be with dignity and peace the staff are amazing very caring  i  can ring and pass on messages to mum and get updates on her condition is any one else in this situation as we can not be the only family and how much longer can mum carry on ?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Jackie although I'm really sorry about your mum

I can't begin to imagine how difficult this must be for you but I'm glad you're still able to stay in contact with her even though you can't visit.

Sadly, many of our members and their families are also being affected by the coronavirus so will understand what you're going through and will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

If you want to talk things through with our cancer nurses do be sure to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Best wishes to you both in these challenging times,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
