How to help

Hi , this is my first time of posting on here.
My husband was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer back in November last year. Due to him having heart problems as well it was December before they were able to do a biopsy, which unfortunately was not successful, so another biopsy was done on his adrenal gland instead in February this year, we got the results last week that the cancer has spread and is now stage 4. My husband is now waiting to see a cancer specialist, but he is shrinking before my eyes , he has days where he has no interest in food, if I am lucky he may eat a yogurt and on the odd day he will eat a little more, he spends most of the day asleep and is in a great deal of pain in his shoulder, neck and back. The doctor told me to give him paracetamol, but I just don't know how to help him, he can't sleep as the pain is bad and when he does he has started shouting out in his sleep, does anyone have any experience of anything I can do which would help him? Thank you

  • Hi there ..

I'm no expert , but had lots of pain due to stenosis and scoliosis in spine... but in my opinion, just paracetamol in his case wouldn't take that much pain away ... I've been given oramorph and long acting pain killers ...

From what I've learned in nearing 3 years with cancer, is no one need be in pain ... it can be controlled.. if I were you, I'd get a different Dr Anand tell them how much pain he's in, and paracetamol is not enough ..

It's worth being persistent... fingers crossed .. let us know how you go ... maybe worth giving Marie Currie a ring, they are there for people with terminal diagnosis and their families.... have a chat with them too .. Chrissie x
