Total laryngectomy

Hi this is my second post ,the first one was "complete dysphasia" unfortunately things have moved on in the wrong direction .My dad had his latest app at the hospital and the radiotherapy that he had hasn't worked ,the prognosis is 3/12 months or this big op which would also involve removing the esophagus as well . Dad has expressed that he's going to die anyway so go for the op which can be up to 17 hrs long . The surgeon is worried because my dad also has a pacemaker fitted .

Any advice or good outcome stories would be appreciated,I'm feeling pretty fragile at the moment as my husband is coping with incurable Prostate cancer as well .

many thanks

Debby

  • Hello Debby,

I'm sorry to hear that your Dad's condition has deteriorated and that he's now facing this surgery. It's understandable that you're feelng worried and fragile particularly as your husband is living with prostate cancer as well.

Hopefully some of the forum members will be along to share their words of support but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them. I'm sure they would be happy to chat and offer some support. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
