Lung cancer

Hi,

My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer back in June 2019. It has spread to his lymph nodes and to his adrenal glands. He has been receiving triple treatment, starting off with pemetrexed, pembrolizumab and carboplatin. He had 4 doses of this then went onto the maintenance dose of just the pemetrexed and pembrolizumab. He had his 12th treatment cycle a few weeks ago and reacted very badly to it, resulting in him deciding he doesn't want to continue with treatment anymore. I completely understand his decision and stand by him 100%.
i just want to know what I should expect now and hear about other people's experiences with this please?

  • HelloDon80.

Just want to say hello and sorry that you find yourself here. I am sorry that your husband has reacted badly to his treatment and decided not to have any more.

My late husband was diagnosed in January 2016 with lung cancer stage 4, spread to lymph nodes and adrenal glands. Because of the size of the tumour and the position, invading the heart valves we were given a prognosis of 9 -12 months. He did have 4 short bursts of palliative radiotherapy with a view to keeping the tumour at bay and give some quality of life for his remaining time.

Everybody's cancer journey is different as you will see if you read other posts on here. You just have to deal with things day to day and not look ahead. We are all stronger than we think and we cope because we have to. Our journey was only 6 months but I know that I cared for my husband in the very best way I could and as was his wish, to die at home.

I send my best wishes to you and your husband.

    Lynne.

  • Hello Lynne,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post. I am very sorry about your late husband.

I suppose sometimes it's just nice to know you are not alone. I have a big family and they are very supportive but they don't really know as thankfully they haven't been through anything like it.
Until now I have just really been focusing on my husband and my 3 boys (13, 11 and 6). Now reality is setting in!

You are right and we do find our way through, sometimes it seems harder than others

    Sending love Donna x
