Pancreatic & Liver Cancer

Hi.

My husband aged 58 was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer last June. Chemo Oct to Dec didn't work and it has spread to his liver and is now inoperable. We were told "could be a few weeks, a few months or he could be lucky!!".  He has now started chemo of Abraxine & Gemcitabine in 4 week cycles.  They will do a couple of cycles then scan.  This seems to be a common chemo. Has any one had experience of this ? I have seen on other forums it is used but not much about it. He is so thin as he has no appetite and I have tried all ways to boost this. Does anyone have any ideas please? I have read stories even on here where there are survivors 5 years plus so can only cross fingers and toes but not under any illusions.

  • Hello Sue12fm

I'm sorry to hear that your husband's treatment at the end of last year was unsuccessful. I hope that the new treatment plan brings some good news.

I've had a look through the forum and I can't see any recent posts from any members who have had this combination. We do have some information on our website that I can link about Gemcitabine and Abraxane which may be of interest. We also have some information about diet problems but if you've not already done so then it may be a good idea to speak to his specialist nurse about your concerns about his diet. They may be able to recommend some supplements to try and help boost him.

If you'd like to speak to one of our nurses for some advice and support then you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Keep in touch Sue and let us know how you're both doing.
    Best wishes,

  • Hi

Unfortunately my husband passed away March 2020.  The Fulfirinox he had first just didn't work so by the time he was diagnosed terminal in Jan 2020 and went on to the other 2 chemo's he was just so ill his body couldn't take any of it.  I do, however, have a friend in his early 70's who was diagnosed terminal in December after having several sessions of the Fulfirinox and is now on the Gem / Abrax and doing extremely well.

All the best for your Dad

    x
