End is Nigh

My Dad has been battling cancer for 4 years now. It started with a lump on his kidney, which they removed, only for the cancer to spread to his lungs, which angered him to have lung cancer because he hasn't smoked for nearly 40 years and he wasn't even a full time smoker.

He has had three courses of Chemotherapy. The first time he was on chemo he lost 8 Stone in six months, which was horrible to see. The second course of Chemotherapy put the cancer into remission for a while.

His latest scan showed that the cancer had spread too much and at the age of 74, the Doctors told him they were not going to prescribe another course of Chemotherapy, but give him medication for the pain and estimated that in 3 - 4 months he would be no longer with us.

Tonight he has had a fall at home and when my mum found him he had been lying there for some time. When they got to the hospital they did some scans because he said his head was hurting and his vision was funny. They found from the scan that he has tumors on his brain.

We won't know the size of the tumors or what grade etc until he has his MRI scan tomorrow morning, but you hear about people who go to hospital and they find brain tumors and the next day they bite it. So needless to say, my hopes aren't great right now.

Sorry to hear about your father. I really hope he comes out of hospital and that you can hopefully have a little more time home with him. The uncertainty of what's around the corner is horrible. You feel so helpless. My mum was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer yesterday and we have no idea what to expect over the coming months. All we can be certain of is that there will be plenty of tears and a whole lot of pain.

Praying for your dad this evening.
