Help with End of life care at home

Hi,

my Grandad is having end of life care at home. There were orignally carers coming 4 times per day for 30 mins each visit but because me,my mum and dad are with him 24/7 there is not much for the carers to do so we have postponed them for the time being. I am wondering if there is anything available even if it is not often, that someone could stay overnight just so my Dad can have a break as at the moment he is sleeping on the sofa next to my Grandads bed which we moved downstairs. He has been doing this for almost 3 weeks and i am concerned that it is not practical long term. sometimes he has to get up 5 times per night to help my Grandad go to the toilet etc.

My grandad is 92 years old, extremely weak and frail and has Cancer of the Oesophegus which has metasized to the Lymph nodes and brain :(

  • Hi Natalie and welcome to the community.

We have some information on our website which has a list of what help and support may be available but hopefully some of our members will pop by soon to offer their thoughts and advice.

You're more than welcome to give our cancer nurses a quick call about this as well. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope you're able to find a more practical long term solution soon.

    Best wishes to you all,
