Excessive mucus help!! - Oesophageal cancer (adenocarcinoma)

My mum has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, its an adenocarcinoma. She has a feeding tube thru her nose into her intestines. We are feeding her at home with liquid food from the hospital. My issue is that mum is constantly bringing up white foamy mucus! Sometimes lots of the stuff! Every 5 minutes! She cant have her PET scan as she cant lay for 25 mins whilst shes throwing this stuff up! She cant drink or eat, everything goes thru tube. Anyone know of something that will work? Something to ease the mucus so she can have her much needed PET scan. Thank you x

  • Hi Michella and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry about the issues your mum is having at the moment. It must be very difficult.

If you get in touch with her medical team they should be able to advise but you're more than welcome to have a chat with our cancer nurses about this on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will share their advice and experiences with you soon as well.

I really hope you're able to find a solution so your mum can have her PET scan.

    Best wishes to you all,
