Support

Hi there,

I was looking for some information please.

Just before Christmas I was in hospital having emergency brain surgery. Where I met someone who I've become quite close to.

She was diagnosed with glioblastoma grade 4, and had 60% of the tumour removed when met on the neurosurgical ward.

I don't have cancer myself but have a rare brain condition, that can make me very unwell. (I've been in and out of hospital for the past year)

I took her under my wing as such as she was quite frightened of the unknown. So offered advice, tried to calm her nerves on things that I had been through myself which did help. It is very scary to have an operation on your brain, which we both had in common.

We have been in touch ever since and have developed a nice friendship.

She is due to start radiotherapy and chemotherapy (tablet form) on Tuesday. She has told me, she is more scared of the chemotherapy. I want to offer the best support I can, and i especially don't want to say the wrong thing.

We live quite far apart so I couldn't visit her.

It is awful what she is going through. Her diagnosis is quite serious.

Many thanks x

  • Hi Ikscotland,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's lovely to hear you've made this connection with this person and even more so that you're seeking further information to be able to help her.

The best thing might be for you to browse this forum - or to search it for specific terms, using the button in the blue bar above - depending on what information you're hoping to get.

It's of course important to note that it is her doctor or consultant who will be best placed to advise in terms of the treatment specifically to her, however you may find this forum useful too.

Wishing you both all the best,

    Ben
