Dads Options

Hi there

my dad was diagnosed with HCC Stage C last July 2019. He was put on Sorafenib for 6 months and even though initially they controlled the tumour, towards the end of the 6 months they Did nothing and the tumour has increased in size. We even tried to go down the private route but after 6 months of tests and reviews, they have decided they wil not be able to operate on dad, even though initially they said they could. I feel so angry as time is not on his side and we could have looked at other private treatments but out all our hopes on this one consultant. Dad isn't on anything currrntlt and I am worried the tumour will grow and we need to do something. What other successful options does someone in his condition have? Alternative treatments?  Anyone had success with treatments abroad? We are so desperate to look into anything and everything. He is still very mobile, drives and still holds his appetite...and I dont want to give up on him. Please someone advise me.

  • Hello Daddysgirl0710

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's diagnosis. I can tell from  your post that you obviously love your Dad very much and want to do all you can to help him.

It's unfortunate that the Consultants he's seen have said there is nothing else that they can do for his HCC. You mention that you sought a private opinio from a Dr. I don't know if you've requested a second opinon from another NHS specialist. You can find information about how to do this here

If you'd like to speak to one of our team of nurses for some advice and support then please do call them. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    best wishes,

  • Hello Daddys girl,

I dont know what cancer we are dealing with your Dad?

I have had my cancer which is rare and nasty but i am still here after 15 years. If you are not dealing with a Specialist that knows all about your Dads cancer then get refered to one asap as they know the workings and treatments. if you have good oncologist then keep faith with them or ask to be refered to another Specialist who knows all about HCC and dont waste time. Good Luck and all the very best to your Dad. Dont do it alone as the moderator states there are places you can talk and try and clear your head,

  • Hi Andy

Thanks for your response. Myself and my brother have reached out to various private centres in Europe who are advising us of the treatment plans they can offer. Dad has primary liver cancer but in the last 2 weeks he has ascites, fluid build up and has had to be drained twice already. I just feel the cancer is getting out of control, and we are against the clock, even though in himself he is fine, eating well, very much mobile but what we don't know is what is happening inside his body. The private clinics we have reached out to are ridiculously expensive which we have tried to put to one side because as long as they can treat dad we will financially be find a way but it will be difficult for us. Any kind of advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
