Husband diagnosed with cancer of oesophagus April 2019

Since being diagnosed, my husband has had 3 cycles of chemo, which initially helped with his swallowing and keeping food down. However, he has a really great fear of hospitals and procedures and as a result of this has decided not to have anymore medical intervention. Initially, the plan was to reduce the growth and then remove by surgery, but it was decided he was not 'fit' enough to have operation. I am finding it very hard to cope with with at the moment....... he will not talk about how he feels or will tell me if he's in pain....... He was even too afraid to go to his follow up appt. with oncologist. Anyone else going through this ?

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Jill although I'm sorry to read about your husband.

Many of our members know how difficult it is to be in this position, so hopefully you'll receive some support and kind words from them soon but if you'd like to talk things through with someone then do give our cancer nurses a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We have some information on how to look after yourself whilst supporting someone on their cancer journey just here which I hope will be of some help to you at this time as well.

    Best wishes to you both,
