Help please breast cancer

I’m Ginny

ive posted before.

lorraine, my best friend who is 66 had surgery for breast cancer.

Her left breast had an estrrogen fed cancer lump, 2,5 cm, surrounded by a large area of ore cancerous tissue.

last Thursday she had surgery. Three hours.

The lump, plus thecarea was removed.

prior a blue dye was used to highlight lymph nodes.

Under her left srm they removed quite ‘hot’ node, one main one, plus I believe one other.

The node had +++ written in her discharge notes from the surgeon.

Being Autistic I saw the result, even though I shouldn’t have.

Can anyone clarify what ait means, ‘hot node’, also +++ above it.

im Autistic, High Function. We need structure. That means we question, I’m currently in severe meltdown.

im the only career, and next week have a shirt op for a painful kidney stone, I’m using the private system S the NHS wait is months.

im an Addison’s andrely on steroids. So it’s complicated.

i have to be well.

Lorraine has made it clear she will not have chemotherapy. She will have radiotherapy.

its the not knowing. The nights. She’s my closet and dearest friend,

can anyone tell me what that means.

we function better with more knowledge.

i live on the coast, Middlesbrough is the hospital, . It was terrible for her.

im doing everything, the Ward didn’t arrange nurses re dressings.

its been one long nightmare.

Howrver, I can’t show her my fear, I’m trying to keep her occupied, and git her her to have a shirt walk with me.

shes obviously sleeping, which she needs.

seeing her like this is devastating and no one to talk to, it’s devastating.

any one understand and can he,p please x

  • Hi Ginny

Lorraine is very lucky to have you as a friend. I had breast cancer in 2018 and as you know a radioactive dye is injected into the breast preoperation to allow the surgeon to use a radiation detector during surgery tolook for lymph nodes that have a high radiation count, those who have high radiation counts are usually referred to as 'reactive' nodes or 'hot' nodes. I had 3 reative nodes so they were removed during surgery to be tested for cancer but all three came back benign.

So Lorraine's nodes will also be tested to see of the cancer has spread but just because she had hot nodes doesnt mean she does have cancer in the lymph nodes, it could be, like mine, the nodes were reacting to an infection. I know you are worried about your friend but us breast cancer ladies on here can testify that breast cancer is treatable and your friend is in the hands of experts - trust them that they are doing their best for Lorraine x
