Mum been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer

I dont even know really what to say.

My mum was diagnosed 5 weeks ago with primary lung cancer that has spread to her liver, spine and nodes.

We have to see the oncologist Friday, to see if there is anything that can be done to slow it, will they give us a possible time scale?

I feel so devastated I dont know how to discuss it with mum, i feel like all I'm saying is do you want pain relief, drink etc

Feeling totally lost, any advice would be so helpful

Many blessings

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Raven although I'm very sorry to read about your mum.

I noticed you and your mum had your appointment with the oncologist yesterday so I just thought I'd stop by to see how you got on. I do hope you got your questions answered and they were able to give you some positive news about slowing the cancer down but do feel free to give our Cancer Nurses a call on Monday if you'd like to talk things through. They'll be available on 0808 800 4040 between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in similar situations with their loved ones will be along soon to offer their support and advice but whilst you wait I just wanted to make you aware of the information we have on about advanced lung cancer as well as some advice for family, friends and caregivers.

I hope this helps and wish you both all the very best on this journey.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Steph'

Unfortunately we didnt get the news we had hoped for.

Mum cannot have treatment. we are trying to come to terms with the news. It's hard to know what to say to mum but we are with her.

Our nurse that we now have are so amazing. They are making sure mum has everything she will need.

Just feel so devastated and feel like life is hanging on a thread.
