Mum recently diagnosed but not eating

Hello all,

looking for some help / advice / stories that might be similar to mine.

my mum was diagnosed with CUP a couple of weeks ago, and what lead to her diagnosis was a period of not eating, extreme fatigue and rapid weightloss. She spent two weeks in hospital where they tried to feed her up to try and give her more energy and also to treat an infection which was in an unknown area.

mum was discharged on Monday and it’s now SUnday, since coming home my mum has only left her bed to go to the toilet, she hasn’t showered yet and is so tired she is sleeping for most of the day. She hasn’t eaten properly and I’m concerned that she is now worse than she was when in hospital.

we are still waiting for her biopsy results which are now overdue, the McMillan nurse came out on Wednesday but there was no follow up booked.

Are there any emergency referrals / requests for additional care or advice lines available that people have used? I have tried our McMillan team over the weekend but there office is only open Monday to Friday.

Thanks

anna

  • Hello Anna,

Welcome to our forum and I hope that you will hear from others here who have been in a similar situation before and that they will offer you some good tips and advice.

As it's the weekend it must be really hard for you to get hold of anyone. As your mum is not eating, it would be a good idea to get some medical advice on this as I can understand why you are concerned. Perhaps you could give 111 a call and explain the situation to them so that you can see whether your mum can be seen by someone over the weekend. If you felt it was an emergency then you could ring 999.

I hope that you manage to speak to someone today. Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm if you wanted to ask them for advice tomorrow.

Best wishes to you and your mum,
