My Dad Has Bone Cancer

My dad was diagnosed with bone cancer two weeks ago and went into hospital after coughing up black blood he was also told he has pneumonia.  They began treatment on him straight away and pneumonia seems to have cleared away but my dad refuses to have any treatment for the cancer, yesterday when I spoke with him he sounded like he was going to die and had lost all hope it was just awful.  I was afraid to call the hospital today thinking the worst may of happened,  but to my surprise he feels 100% better all his pain has gone away and he is so positive and talking about going home.  is this normal? will the pain come back? will it get worse?  Why is it that the treatment made him feel worse and as soon as it all stops he’s okay again ?

  • Hello HRL and welcome to the forum.
I'm sorry to hear about Dads recent diagnosis. It's understandably a difficult time for you all.

It's not uncommon for some patients to initally feel that they don't want to accept treatment. Being told that you have cancer can be a shock and it can take some time to process things and thoroughly consider all the options that may be available.

I'm not sure if your Dad is still in hospital but it would be worth speaking to the clinical staff caring for him and asking them the questions that you have about the treatment that he has had.

    Best wishes,
