Kidney cancer

Please can anyone help with advise about surgeons able to perform a kidney removal on a very large tumour. My husband has been told that his best option is to remove his kidney but the surgeons at our cancer unit say that the operation is too difficult as the tumour has a large blood supply. They have ruled out embolism because of the risk of a blood clot travelling to the heart. Has anyone else been in this situation?

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat forum Redkite although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will share their experiences and advice with you soon but whilst you wait maybe you could try and find out if it's possible to get a second opinion?

Our cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if you'd like to discuss this with them as well.

    Best wishes to you both,

  • Many thanks for replying to me. We did get a second opinion and my husband has now had surgery to remove his kidney. Although it has spread to his lungs we feel that the operation will improve the quality of his life as the haematuria will now stop.
