Dad has a rare small cell liver cancer

Hi all

Just found this forum, and I’m hoping for some help, information and support. My Dad was first diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer, his scan result then showed that it wasn’t in the lungs or anywhere else just the liver. The consultant is still called it small cell lung cancer as he said it would have originated in the lung. But the lung is clear? I don’t understand, apparently this type of cancer is extremely rare, I just need to know the correct diagnosis, is this SCLC?

My Dad started Chemo on Friday and is now in A&E as has awful stomach liver pain, is this a normal side effect?

Hopefully someone can through some light on this, I feel so helpless..

Thank you

xx

  • Hello Reachingout,

Welcome to Cancer Chat and I'm sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis. His medical team would be the best people to answer your questions about the diagnosis, but if you want to talk to someone else we have a team of nurses available on the freephone 0808 800 4040 Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. There is also the option of a second opinion if you feel it will help support the diagnosis and treatment your Dad is getting. You can read more about this here. With Chemotherapy there can be different side effects so it's important to make the doctor aware of this also.

    I hope this helps,
