Can’t eat or drink after radiotherapy for Oesophageal cancer

Hello everyone!

Big hugs to you all! My mum finished her treatment for Oesophageal cancer on Friday last week and although throughout her treatment (chemo /radiation therapy) she has felt quite well, the last week she seemed to plumet. Her last week of chemo was cancelled because her bloods were so low and she reached a point 3 days ago where she can no longer eat or drink anything including water, she is so sore.  Has anybody had the same experience? Will this pass or do we need to get intravenous liquids organised?

i’m so worried, mum has lost all colour and is very weak.

thank you for any advise.

  • My mum had radiotherapy to her jaw in March.  The side effects were extremely painful and for well over 4-6 weeks all I could get mum to drink was milk (water was like drinking razor blades apparently). She lost 3 stone in as many months.  She was prescribed oramorph which she didn’t like the taste of, but it seemed to take the edge off the pain if I could convince her to take it.

    Good luck.
