Brain tumor

My brother has brain tumor , he was first diagnosed in 2013 . The first three years he was fine  , taking his medecine and living his life as normal as possible and having regular MRI scans to monitor the tumor .  in 2016 he was advised to do a biopsy to get a sample and as consequence he was prescribed a course of radiotherapy followed by 6 month course of chemiotherapy (5 days per month for six month ) ; his was fine after that but not the same . In 2018 he started having problems controlling his left hand side of his body  and also  problems with his speach , after numerous scans MRI , PET scans he was again advised to go through the same as the tumor started growing and needed more radio and chimeo to control it .  Now  he is totally paralyzed , lost his sight and lost his speach  and unable to interact with us .

this week we started seeing an red / yellowish lump sticking out from his eyes .

we as family are lost and not sure what to do , the doctors are not saying much .

my brother is a fighter , strong mentally and a believer he all the time referred to the tumor as unpredictable    visitor that might stay for ever but he was determined not to let him disturb his life . Unfortunately it seems my brother has been defeated physically but I am sure not mentally even if he is not able to say it but we can feel it , the smile he used  to draw on his tired face when ever his body allows him and the acceptance words he used to say when ever his tongue obeys his beautiful mind .

i guess just looking for advise ,

  • Hi Larache-,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Firstly I'm glad you felt you were able to come to this forum to express your feelings and seek support. Cancer Chat is a very welcoming and understanding community of people. I'm sorry you haven't yet had a reply to your post; my reply here will boost your post so more people will see it. Do also feel free to browse the forum to speak to others if you would like to.

I can only imagine how hard this situation is for you and for all around you. It sounds like your brother is strong and I'm sure you're proud of him.

You mention the doctors aren't saying much - if you have any questions or feel you'd like more information, do make sure you ask them, as it's important that you're as informed as possible.

Continue to support your brother as I'm sure you have been so far. And do also make sure to look after yourself, too - talk to others around you, and as I say use this forum as much as you'd like as a safe space to write down any thoughts or worries. There are of course organisations who can offer support to family members, such as Macmillan and Maggies, if you feel you might benefit from it.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
