Cancer cells detected in a new location

Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer last Oct.  He had surgery to remove half lung then chemo.  He was doing well.  Recent blood tests and scan to check have now indicated hot spots in lymph nodes in neck.  Needs an xray to see viability of biopsy and a brain scan to see if it's moved there.  I can not thu k straight and feel absolutely numb, sick want to hide away.  Am I right in thinking this is now stage 3B cancer? I am terrified and checked prognosis on websites which has now shattered my foundations.  Any help or advice would be welcome.

  • Hi Smykir,

I'm sorry to read about what you're going through at the moment - I can only imagine how difficult this is.

I'm unable to advise on your question and the only person or people who can answer that are those involved in your Dad's medical care, once they're able to do further tests.

The only thing I can advise is to try to avoid looking things up online - the information you find isn't specific to anyone, and it tends to lead to further worry.

How you're feeling is perfectly understandable; do try to speak to others close to you about this if you can, so that you're not dealing with everything yourself.

There are of course organisations such as Macmillan and Maggie's who can offer support if you feel you'd benefit from it.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
