Pancreatic cancer

I was sat in the room with the consultant and nurse on Thursday when my father was told his cancer had returned. He had had his pancreas partially removed ? And had not long shown clear on a scan.

He now has two lymph nodes showing as being swollen and something around a blood vessel,so consequently he has been offered more chemo to ‘ control’ it.

My prob was that I couldn’t ask what the prognosis was with him sat in the room because he’s managed this far by being ignorant and bullish about it .

what are your thoughts on the situation ? Would chemo be offered with next to no hope ?

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear about the reason that brings you here.

Chemotherapy can be offered for many different reasons which can include the individuals diagnosis and any other health problems. We do have some information about chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer on our website here

I would imagine that your Dad's consultant has offered this treatment option as he feels that Dad will benefit. To what extent the Dr hopes Dad might benefit I can't really say. Dad's Dr would be best placed to give you firmer answers about that.

However, you might find that talking things through with one of our team of nurses gives you more information that helps answer your question. You can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).
