Bowel cancer treatment

My grandad has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. At first the drs said there is NO  treatment as he has a fatty liver and can cause further damage and in order to remove the tumour, they have to operate next to the liver and the chance of survival is 0%. Now the drs are saying they will treat the liver and see how that goes and then look into operating on the tumour but by then it might spread. He still gets blood in his stools. Has anyone experienced this or know of anyone? Im scared it has spread?

  • Hello m1922 and welcome to the forum.

I'm really sorry to hear about your Grandad's diagnosis and that treatment is limited due to other medical conditions that he has.

It can be really hard to hear that news and it's understandable that you're feeling scared and worried about what might happen.

Try to keep positive that the Dr's feel there is an option they can offer your Grandad at the moment and spend some time together enjoying each other's company.

If you'd like to talk through your concerns with one of our team of nurses you can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday (9am to 5pm). I'm sure they'll be able to offer you some words of support and advise.

    Best wishes,
