Paranoia and confusion

Hi, following on from my last post, my wife has undergone her first chemo treatment session, but appears to be having serious mental health issues afterwards. I was wondering if this was normal, as I'm not seeing anything in the support.

She's been making strange statements about seeing hallucinations, forgetting where she is and forgetting things as soon as she's told them. She's also been claiming that friends and family are forcing her to go back to work, that she gets no support from people, and that she can "tell" what I'm feeling and "knows" I don't care about her being ill.

Is this common from any of the treatments or steroids? I understand anxiety about the cancer but the rest seems very specific.

  • Hello AF16

I'm really sorry to read your post and had your wife's first treatment has affected her. It's not an uncommon symptom to have chemo brain and you can read more on our website here but for your own peace of mind I'd suggest giving her Consultant or nurse specialist a call.

Alternatively if you'd like to speak to one of our nurses for some advice and support you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that things settle for you both soon.

    Best wishes,
