Pain in the back! - mum has had ET for 13 years

Hi,

I am on this forum on behalf of my mother who has no internet. I am new to the forum because I need to try and find some advice and support for my mother as her GP and consultant have not been listening.

My mother has lived with ET for 13 years and is now experiencing episodes of severe spasmodic pain in the vertebrae. This has happened 7 times this year and is lasting between 4-8 days at a time. She has had an x-ray that is inconclusive. Physio was ineffective. She feels the pain is coming from the bones due to the severity of pain, that is unrelentless for the duration. She is  taking hydroxycarbomide and thinks this maybe contributing to the pain, having taken if for 13 years.

My mother is not experiencing pain in the hands and feet that is typically described as a symptom, but does get numbness, that although irritating, doesn't cause undue problems.

Can anyone advise as to similar experiences and their treatment please

Thank you

  • Hello Phillyfelt,

How nice of you to join us on behalf of her mother who has no internet I am sure she appreciates your concern and your support at the moment. I hope you manage to get some answers soon. Perhaps if you feel you are not getting anywhere with her GP or consultant, it might be worth trying to speak to a different GP or specialist in order to get a second opinion on this? You can find out more about this on this page

I hope you manage to find out more soon. Make sure you mention your mother's medical history and to ask whether the hydroxycarbomide may be having an effect and if it might be linked to her ET. Hopefully someone else who has had similar experiences will be along soon too to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
