Hi Everyone
I almost feel ashamed for having to write this whilst so many of you inspirational people are facing cancer head on !
My brother found out he had colon cancer last December after a year of waiting for a routine colonoscopy. It was a massive shock and he ended up having an operation in January to remove the tumour. During the op, they removed all of the bowel lymph nodes and found cancer in 3 out of them all. It was only by chance a second specialist picked this up and told his oncologist to send him for chemo to ensure it was all gone. Fast forward 3 months and he’s completed chemo,
feeling fantastic and thought this would give him the all clear. He had a scan 4 weeks ago and had a phone call yesterday to go and see his oncologist this morning. It turns out they have found 1 lymph node behind his stomach that has grown by 1cm in 5months which they said is significant. It’s location means they can’t access it to remove it during surgery and he will either need chemo or radiotherapy or both. My sister in law is heavily pregnant and I’m trying my best to keep her as calm as possible but we are frantic with worry - he is just 30 years old.
I am absoulutley devastated for him and our family and especially that it took 4 weeks of thinking everything was good to get this news. He has been referred to find out his treatment plan at the cancer centre on Monday leading us all to panic that it’s too late.
we have very little details from the oncologist and I feel like waiting until Monday will be torture - does anyone have experience of this ???
Does an enlarged lymph node elsewhere mean stage 4 colon cancer that has spread ??
Please please please help us :(
thanks
R
