Lung cancer with metastatic bone cancer

a very close friend has been diagnosed with lung cancer, unfortunately by the time she was diagnosed she already had metastatic bone cancer. She has a very positive approach to it but it is now in her spleen. This has all happened in last 4 months & I wondered what her prognosis is now

  • I’m very sorry to hear what has happened to you friend. I am not a Dr or a medical professional but I do have experience of caring for a loved one with cancer. Hers was Breast which metastasized to her liver, spine and rib cage. Treatment at that point was limited to palliative care unfortunately. I suppose it really depends on each individual and their health at the time but my understanding is that once cancer cells have travelled to distant organs then prognosis is not very good. That being said there are lots of treatments out there and people have been known to go into remission so I guess as they say while there’s hope there’s light.

  • Hi Tamz,

Like you, I have cared for many friends, including both my parents & mum-in-law. I always understood that secondary tumours are incurable & life expectancy with most is 5-20 years. I guess I just wondered if that changes with multiple metastasis?
