Fertility

Hi

we went for a fertility appointment... on the point of starting IVF...on the same morning went for a bladder ultrasound due to recurring UTIs. Call later that day to say mass had been found on bladder. After scan an biopsy...muscle invasive bladder cancer... Chemotherapy/radiotherapy or surgery are options... either way we will never be able to have a child....the choice... which way to become in fertile. We know treatment is only option but so so worried that at some point this decision is going to be so so sore to live with...any thoughts/ advice most welcome

  • Hello Robin and welcome to the forum.

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and of course on top of that the news that your journey to try and have a child will now also come to an end. It's perfectly understandable that you're feeling worried and confused by things at the moment.

I'm presuming that the Consultant has given you the options of treatment and discussed the pros and cons of each one. Making choices about treatment options can inevitably lead to the question of "am I making the right choice?" but being as informed about the options as you can be will hopefully help to reassure you when you do decide which option to take.

We've some information on our website about invasive bladder cancer which may help but I wonder if you might also find it helpful to chat to our team of nurses. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040. Hopefully talking things through with them will help you to consider the benefits and risks of both types of treatments and if you still have questions you can take these back to the team responsible for your care.

I hope that this helps. Do keep in touch and let us know how you're doing.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
