Brain Cancer Stage 4

Hi

My dad has recently been diagnosed with metastatic melanoma including multiple brain mestastases , he has disayed no symptoms in any way up until his first seizure which when scanned showed the devastating news .

He has completed 6 rounds of Radiotherapy 5 weeks ago now and his heavily fatigued wanting to sleep most of the day, I have looked at online forums which tell me that should subside after 3 weeks and I honestly no matter how much I want it does he looks like he’s seeing any benefit or improvement . Has anyone had any experience with this treatment on the brain and how long after it did you see any improvements please or can this be normal also ?

thanks Janine

  • Hi janine1234,

so sorry to hear your dad not well. My husband has stage 4 glioblastoma he under went radio and chemotherapy last year. He got through it really well but he also was very tired afterwards everybody body reacts differently but if your worried maybe talk to his consultant.

wishing the best to your dad.

  • Hi,

sorry to hear about your husband this is a truly awful disease

Do you mind me asking was he bed bound in the main and how long did that last ? My dad at the moment is 5 weeks and everything I can see online said it should start from 3 weeks but to what degree I don’t know he has taken some baby steps but I don’t know if that’s us seeing these things that aren’t there and we wishing it was we just can’t tell. He goes back to see his consultant next week but I’m trying to prepare myself for the worst based on his very little improvement since his therapy started . His consultant won’t entertain chemo until we know that this has made any difference the waiting is just terrible and everyday it’s like he’s giving up a little more because he just doesn’t have the energy to walk much further than the bathroom

  • Hi,

No my husband wasn’t bed bound at all but he reacted to this non typical I think it affects everyone differently. My husband just use to nap but turned out he had swelling still due to the treatment as one point they thought it was growing and treatment didn’t work but next scan showed shrinking. It’s been a roller coaster ride as we were told he wouldn’t make it past Xmas last year so we got married within 6 weeks. In all I think it gave him something to fight for and he’s still fighting. Could your dad be depressed? I found my husband going to a local charity helpful as he does different types of therapies they even do family days where we can just be a family.

Good luck with your dad consultant appointment I’ll have my fingers crossed for you all xx
