Lymphoma

Hi everyone am new here, my partner was diagnosed with cancer 3 weeks ago i am still in shock and totally devestated. Its a long story so i will keep it as short as i can, he was badly constipated with a huge swollen stomach went to A E who admitted him, they did scan found large mass back of bowel and wrapped round aorta. sent him to another hospital in my home town, the hospital has an oncology unit but he is not in there he is on a normal ward.they said his swollen stomach is fluid from the cancer its massive. they did biopsy 11 days ago we got part of the results back they think its lymphoma but need to know what type so right now they cant do anything and said its pointless putting him on oncology ward because they cant do anythig there either.  He hasnt eaten and hardly drank anything for 2 weeks now and is in agony. he has detariorated lost weight but the fluid in his stomach is huge, they call it acetis i think, they wont drain it, he has to have pet scan on wednesday Then its a wait for the results i feel like he has been left to rot by the time they decide to do anything he will be dead and i have told them this.

  • Hello Sanuki,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear about your partner's diagnosis. I can only imagine how you're feeling but his doctors are doing their best and as you say, they probably need to find out what type of lymphoma because any treatment can start. I hope the scan went ok today and hopefully they can relieve the pain.

    All the best,

  • Hi [@Sanuki]‍  It absolutely sends shocks waves through the family when a diagnosis is made, and I know the waiting is the worst part. Take it one day at a time, trust that the medical team will form a plan. I am so sorry to hear of the diagnosis :(  I can’t imagine how overwhelmed you feel right now.

If your partner isn’t eating, and in pain. Could you try endure drinks which are caloric and give all the nutrients he needs. I wish we had known about them earlier. They are brilliant. And a gods send for my own father. One small drink has 400 calories. He can have a couple of them to keep the weight up. If possible.

In saying that just in relation to waiting for the next step, we got in touch with a local politician as there were big waiting lists even for scans (we are in Ireland) things sped up then, they began to take us seriously and action began.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your partner xxxxx
