Adjuvant chemo yes or no?

Hi,

we have been on such a journey with my Dad & wonder if anyone can relate or give advice.

He was diagnosed with bowel cancer liver mets at beginning of year. He lost so so much weight & was very frail , they did a bowel & liver resection, but was told cancer had spread into small intestines.

He had complications after surgery & wasn’t well at all, we were told he only have months possibly weeks to live.

We sadly prepared ourselves for this , he wasn’t fit for chemo anyway & he decided quality over quantity was way forward.

4 weeks ago we had a call from oncologist asking why not came in for chemo , he explained situation & was told you have been very mislead theres no cancer left, take chemo you will be fine & bk to work in 6 months.

So this apparently is adjuvant chemo for assurance, ct scan had & cant see anything obvious.

My Dads head is all over the place as is ours. He has no confidence in hospital & doesn’t want to go ahead with chemo.

  • I'm so sorry to read what has happened Dee. I can't begin to imagine how you're all feeling right now and can completely understand your dad's lack of confidence in the hospital.

If your dad is feeling up to it maybe he could try seeking a second opinion to find out where he stands. It may be worth checking out the Bowel Cancer UK website as well.

You're more than welcome to give our cancer nurses a call about this on 0808 800 4040. The phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and hopefully some of our members will pop by soon to share their thoughts and advice.

    Kind regards,
