Struggling to cope

Mum has been home from hospital for a month now and I’m struggleing to cope. After being diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and secondary brain mets mum refused further treatment. I have taken time off work toook after her but I can’t cope. Mum’s deteriorated so is now bedbound.

I have a recall appointment tomorrow after having a mammogram last week and don’t know how I’m going to manage if I have to have a biopsy. There is no else available to help. I have night sitters from Marie Curie a few nights a week so I can sleep but don’t know when they will be coming again.

  • Hi there ..

You've done amazing, but your not super woman ... everyone needs a break ..  I know I've told my family if I need it at any time, I would want a hospice .. they are not sad places .. they make every day count .. they let you visit as much as you want .. and they do respite for a while to give you a brake too ...

Please look after your self now too .. who cares for the carer .. we all need a brake .. before we brake .. ask your Marie Currie nurse .. tell them your not coping .. it's better then holding it all in, and soldgering on ... if you get a brake, then you'll feel stronger to help mum ..

Fingers crossed your recall is o.k .. 8.5 out of 10 lumps are benign... my first 4 call backs from mamorgrams were all clear... so fingers crossed ... Chrissie x

  • Thank you, i hope so too. I mentioned the hospice to mum a few days ago and she flipped but I shall speak to the district nurse on Thursday when she comes.
