Diagnosis with oesophageal cancer

hello,

my nan has recently been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer stage 3. She had her first chemo session and she has been really poorly. I am so worried about her and I have read so many things on the internet that it’s not a good survival rate . She is also having 25 sessions of radiotherapy. I just need some positivity because I have been told it’s so aggressive.

  • Hi Hollie199555,

Welcome to Cancer Chat, although I'm very sorry to read about your nan. This must be incredibly difficult for all of you.

Perhaps the best thing you can do is try to be positive for your nan's sake, but also recognising that it's OK to be upset or worried or unsure. There are always people who can support you, including us on this forum - feel free to use this as a safe space to write down any worries you have.

In terms of any medical questions, try to avoid looking things up on the internet if you can, as this can often cause more worry and the information isn't specific to any one person. If you have any questions about your nan's diagnosis, perhaps you can find out further information from a family member.

This forum is a very welcoming community of people so as I say do feel free to use it if it's helpful.

Wishing you all the best at this difficult time,

    Ben
