The Unknown

Hello all,

My mother  (aged 88) has just been diagnosed with stomach cancer after many months of illness.  Eventually she collapsed and needed a blood transfusion due to severe anaemia.  This indicated a blood "somewhere" which was finally found to be the stomach.  The tumour has not spread but is taking up three quarters of her stomach.  I live 300 miles away so have not been able to attend appointments with her.  She has been told she is too old for an operation or chemotherapy but they are going to give her small doses of radiotherapy.  I have no idea how long she has.  Can anyone hazard a guess? To make matters worse my sister (mid-50s) has been diagnosed with kidney cancer and has just had one of her kidneys removed.

  • Hey,

I am so sorry to hear your family are going through this.

From my own knowledge, my grandad had kidney cancer which was diagnosed last summer, but it was too late and he was too weak for chemotherapy, so they too also gave him radiation in regular intervals in his back as a pain relief mechanism I think. The best thing you could do is spend a lot of quality time. Maybe help her to recouperste her strength to see if she could possible be part of some clinical trial.

Sending lots of love to you and your family x
