Lost purpose of life

Hello all I am 24 and my mom is 48. She has been the greatest strength for me in my life. She is the strongest woman I know. She is suffering from stage 4 colon cancer and the doctors say that the treatment itself is more dangerously for her life than her cancer.so they say it's better that we live with her happily until she is there with us .so effectivity my mother is on death bed and I don't know what to do about it. I feel so lost. It's like you life has come to and end. I don't know what to do. I am dreaded about the future. I guess I will just end my life with her.

  • Hello sodes,

I am so sorry about what you are having to go through right now it must be so tough for you to watch your mum deteriorate in front of your eyes. There is nothing that can prepare us for that and it must be both physically and emotionally draining for you. You have done the right thing though in joining this forum as it is a great place to talk to others who understand what you are going through having been in a similar position themselves. I hope you will hear from them and that they will share some tips on how to cope in the coming days and weeks.

We also have some useful information on our website on caring for the carer when someone is dying which you can read on this page. It might be worth also getting in touch with CarersUK - it is important at the moment that you don't feel isolated as what is happening to your mum can be really overwhelming so I hope you have some good friends or family to talk to when you need it the most.

Finally it is easy to forget to look after yourself when something like this is happening, but it is important for your own wellbeing to try and have a little break from time to time, even if just to get some fresh air to help you refocus on yourself.

If it all gets too much, do make an appointment to see your GP who I am sure will have some good advice for you to help you cope. Rest assured we are all here for you any time you need to talk.

    Best wishes,
