Stage 4 cancer

My mum has been diagnosed with secondary cancer in liver, pancreas, kidney, stomach and lungs, primary unknown at this stage, but believe it may be lungs. She is being looked after by me in her home and has carers coming 3 times a day. She has days when she eats nothing and days when she eats a little but struggles with vomiting. She has medication for vomiting and shes been on a steroid for 5 days but the steroids have made her almost euphoric and sometimes she thinks shes in someone else's house. Shes wasting away but is still able to sit in the chair and chat with family. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same with steroids?

  • Hi Flo,

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to read about the news that has brought you here.

Steroids help control many body functions including mood and behaviour. We've got some information on our website about streoids and why they may be used in cancer treatment. You may find it of interest to read through and so I've linked it for you here.

If you are still concerned then do give our team of nurses a call and they'll be happy to chat to you. they are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Sending best wishes,
