Mesothelioma

Hello,

My dad has been diagnosed with mesothelioma in January this year. He has been keeping quite well so far, undergone 5 chemotherapy treatments, which has been tough on him but hes has been coping and the results were good. After 5th chemo 3 weeks ago he started to deteriorate, he is very weak, and suffers badly from pain. He has been put on morphine now as other medication did not do much for him any more. It is very hard to watch him in this condition. I would like to ask, if there is anyone here who had to deal with mesothelioma, how does the desease progress? We don’t really know what to expect, the general info available on internet doesn’t really talk on things we experience on a daily basis.  Is there a possiblity that this is a temporary slow down, and he can still get better for a while at least? My dad is 67, and in good general health, the treatment( according to his doctor) is going well, so we find it very confusing to see him getting worse...I know this is non curable cancer, but would like to hear from others who know first hand about the desease about their experience, if you are happy to share...

  • Hello Teresa,

I'm sorry to hear that your Dad's condition has deteriorated recently. It's understandable that it's been difficult to see him like this.

We do have some information on our website about mesothelioma which you may have already seen but I'm linking it for you here just incase.

I've had a look through the forum and there are a number of threads about mesothelioma which may give you some insight into different people's stories. You can search for them using the magnifying glass in the blue bar at the top of the page and tying in mesothelioma. However I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat to one of our team of nurses about some of your questions. They are available to chat Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    I hope this helps.
