  • Hello graham20,

I am really sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and how it has spread to his lymph nodes and has affected his swallowing. As a carer, it must be really hard to watch him struggle with eating and to give him the support he needs at the moment on a daily basis.

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck for the CT scan results on Tuesday. You've joined the right forum though to talk to others who have been diagnosed with gullet cancer and I hope it will give you a little comfort to chat to others who have been affected by this cancer and to other carers who are also looking after a loved one with cancer. I thought I would put you in touch with [@johnnyboy]‍ who was diagnosed with gullet cancer a couple of months ago. You can read his thread here. One of our regular members [@davek]‍ was also diagnosed with oesophageal cancer many years ago so may be able to answer questions you may have. We also have many carers on our site who will know exactly how you are feeling at the moment and the challenges that go hand in hand with being a carer.

We have some detailed information on our website on oesophageal cancer which you can find here and you might also be interested to read this page  on how to support someone with cancer.

So in short, you're not alone and I hope some of our community members will be there shortly to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Graham20,

Sorry to read about the situation you and your husband find yourselves in. Has anyone told you what to expect on Tuesday?

In my case it was “here’s the results, you have Stage 4 adenocarcinoma of the oesopheagal/ gastrict junction, it is Stage 4 but we’ll confirm the grade once your biopsy results are back. Then a discussion about my treatment options and preferences.  All very matter of fact yet devastating.

Take a notepad with you, write your questions out beforehand and write the answers down. This may sound obvious but most of us forget what we’ve been told when under stress.

    Good luck to you both

    Dave
