Mother in law has bowel cancer

Mother in law had op 8wks ago, consultant has said it was worse than he first thought and couldn't remove all of the tumour, we were told 12 weeks then fastrack at the moment she seems fairly well but can't grasp that she will deteriorate and it maybe quick how quick could it be ? We are concerned and would like a time scale but she's not being honest with us when she sees the doctor.

Hello Plunx,
I'm sorry to hear about your mother-in-law.
If you feel she's not being honest with you about her appointments with the doctor, offer to go with her next time. She may appreciate the support. Only her consultant can tell you how the cancer could progress, so attending with her would be a good opportunity to ask your own questions so you feel fully prepared.
It can imagine it would be hard for you to know what to say sometimes, so here are some tips which I hope will encourage her to talk to you more.

She won't allow us to go with her in the room that's the problem she is happy for us to take her but that's as far as she goes we have to wait outside. PROBLEM

It sounds like she is finding it difficult to cope and she may be wanting to shield the rest of the family from her diagnosis. Try to stay positive and don't give up. Hopefully, with the tips above, she will be able to communicate more and eventually allow you to come with her.
