Husband 43 diagnosed lung cancer today

Hi

My soulmate and best friend was diagnosed with lung cancer today. He’s 43 and between us we have 6 children.

His tumour is upper left lobe and we’re waiting to hear if operable as it’s pressing against a blood vessel on his heart so potentially very difficult to treat.

My world has broken. I am lost and scared. I can’t sleep or eat. We haven’t had an easy time of it but we were just beginning to come out of it and looking forward to a time of less stress. This feels so cruel. He’s the kindest, most rare man I’ve ever known.

So scared.

  • Hello mona78,

I am so sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis it must have been a terrible shock to you and I just wanted to welcome you with open arms on our forum and let you know that you are not alone, many others here find themselves in a similar situation. I hope they will come and share their story with you soon.

I know it is really hard at the moment for you to eat or sleep after the shock of the diagnosis and it is normal to feel like this, you seem to have gone through a lot of stress too recently and all this must seem incredibly unfair. Do talk to your GP if you feel you are struggling to eat or sleep and he or she may have some good suggestions for you and it will help you function on a daily basis if you manage to regain a bit of appetite and if you can get a better night's sleep. You must be feeling so weak and exhausted.

I really hope you find out soon whether it is operable and what the treatment plan will be. It is even harder for you to feel you are in the dark at the moment as to what the treatment options might be. Hopefully you get some answers soon. We are all here for you anytime you feel the need to talk to others who understand what you are going through at the moment.

Best wishes to you and your husband,
