How serious is liver cancer after bowel cancer

I was just wondering if anyone could Tell Me how serious/ curable getting liver cancer as a result of bowel cancer is. Information online suggests largely that treatment is about prolonging life rather than curing.

  • My Da went though getting an all clear in January!! As his chemo and radiation appeared to get rid of the rectal tumour altogether.  To having to get a bowel resection in March as biopsies showed it may be cancer tissue growing , then they found a cyst on the liver in he operation  a PET scan showed 6 small spots of abnormalities in the liver. The main thing to remember is you can't go by stats, everyone reacts differently to chemo. My Da is starting chemo soon, trying 3 months first. I've read cases where people were told they were inoperable and that chemo is the only treatment available, mostly just to shrink the lesions, however having gone through chemo they received a No Evidence of Disease and their prognosis changing. There is hope and that's what we need in taking the treatment plan head on.

I've joined the bowel cancer U.K. Discussion group and it's a life saver. There are patients on there with ups and downs, words of advice, comfort and remarkedly great news such as clear scans etc. I'd recommend joining, as google offers statistics that are not always accurate.

  • Thanks for that, it really helped. Google just bombards you with very negative information so it's good to hear the positive side.
