Cannabis oil

Hi,

I’m hoping for some insight into anyone that has used cannabis oil (CBD and THC) as an anti cancer treatment? Also if it has been used alongside chemo (oxaliplatin and capcetabine)? My mum has stage 4 bowel cancer and is being offered her second cycles of chemo (already been through 6 to keep the cancer at bay finishing around 5 months ago).

I find it so difficult to not be able to ‘fix’ everything and I am desperate for her to try some alternative treatment even if it is due to anecdotal evidence.

Appreciate any experiences

  • Hi

i have been taking cbd for over a year before I got breast cancer I ask my oconlogist if I could take while having treatment they really couldn’t give me a answer  so I decided to start after  my treatment which I have just helped my joints

  • Hi Rebecca..

My hubby used it last year when he had stage 4 throat cancer..he got the all clear in September and I believe it really helped him..also there’s a documentary  on Netflix Called “Weed the people” (I think) and it’s based on people that have cancer and chose to use CBD oil..it’s a really interesting programme to watch.

  • Hi Rebecca, I've been taking cbd oil for pain and joints it very good for that but i don't know about anything else, Billy

  • Hello rebecca1988,

I am sorry to hear about your mum and it is normal to feel that we want to do all we can to help or as you say to "fix" things. The best thing you can do is simply be there for your mum and to trust her medical team and ask them anything you want to know more about.

While there is evidence that medicinal cannabis products can help manage pain and side-effects from cancer treatment there is currently no reliable evidence that it can effectively treat cancer in patients. Further trials are needed to understand whether cannabis-containing products could be used to treat cancer in the future. You can find out more about the research that is currently being carried out in a very interesting article on our science blog

Taking cannabis oil could potentially interfere with any other conventional cancer treatments your mum is having and can carry other side effects and risks as well so do be sure to discuss this with your mum's medical team. You can read more about the safety of complementary and alternative therapies on this page and it is crucial to always discuss these with your mum's specialist.

I hope this helps and that your mum's treatment goes well.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Kazcoco,

thanks for your response, I am glad the cannabis oil has helped you through treatment with your joints, though sorry to hear of the breast cancer.

  • Hi TinaDL

thank you for sharing your husbands success story with me. Could I ask what, if any, other treatment your husband had alongside the cannabis oil? This is the end result I so deeply hope for, for my mum but unfortunately most of the success stories out there are anecdotal although they still give me hope.

I had been recommended a Netflix show but I didn’t know the name so thank you I will watch that tonight. I also watched Dispatches cannabis oil on BBC (possibly just Scotland) this week showing cannabis oil usage on epilepsy but equally it was interesting seeing the health benefits it can produce.

    Thanks

    Rebecca

  • Hi Billy

thanks for your reply, it’s good to know you’ve felt that’s the cannabis oil has given you positive effects with managing pain and joints. I hope it keeps helping you.

  • Hi everyone,

I’m in the same boat my mom (age 60 non smoker or drinker) has just been told she has 2yrs to live! Bit about her diagnosis:

diagnosed with stage 1 and a stage 3 bladder cancer, had an op, to remove the tumour.

Then had 4 lots of chemo and was due bladder removal.

Then had a scan and got told there’s a secondary cancer in her lungs!

I really think chemo caused the second cancer ... as I’ve stayed up researching day and night.

Anyhow after they told her the devastating-news they gave her paracetamol and let it sink in.

    I cried screamed and cried

so 3 days passed and now they’re on about offering a new treatment ... after research I’m guessing it’ll be immunotherapy!? Which she will find out in 5 days time.

If it is that immunotherapy, I have to be honest I don’t like the sound of it. As I’ve read in depth

  • Hi Billy

My daughter told me about it.  Where can I get it??? x

  • hi tonid

i got cbd for my mum - I got a brand called endoca as it was recommended. You can buy cbd in chemists and Holland and Barrett though I don’t know how recommended they are.

    I wish you well x
