Mum’s diagnosis

Hello. I’m new to the forum so unsure as to how to title this. Mum has been diagnosed with SCLC and now 4 brain mets. Hopefully will be allowed home this week with a package of care. I am moving in with mum to help and have been advised that she  deteriorate quite quickly once she stops her dexamethasone. I am so scared of what is coming and don’t know what to expect. The palliative nurse explained that the end won’t be days but won’t be months either so I feel as if I’m in limbo and unable to enjoy whatever time we have left together. Can anyone please advise.

  • Hi there ..

Oh my.. bless ya heart .. what a wonderfull daughter you are ... I know your probly feeling confused, and worried ... to put it mildly ... if you go on Marie Currie home page and they are there for terminal patients and their families... if your district nurse can put you forward ... or give them a ring .. I know they sit with those who are being looked after at home, through the night to give you respite ..

They will listen and give you advice ... give them a try ... also McMillan have things they can help with, though it seems to vary from area to area ... but they came out to my brother in law in the last week's he had ... to help wash and care for him ... so reach out to everyone and take all the help offered ..

Sending you a vertual hug.... hold on in there ... Chrissie xx
