Stage 4 Gleason grade 9 Prostate Cancer

Hi,

I posted a few weeks ago as my dad was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer with a PSA of 700. I didn’t really post since as I have just been processing it, but we now have most of the results so I wondered if anyone could help me make sense of it.

 

stage 4 (very widespread in bones, all over bones inwhole body apparently and lots of disease in spine, lymph glands and adrenal gland near kidney)

Gleason grade 9 (5+4)

He is having MRI to assess if he is at imminent risk of spinal cord compression.

Started hormone injections. No chemo being done.

Is this as bad as it all sounds? Generally speaking (of course there are exceptions) but with this type of stage, grade etc, how long would he be expected to live? 

Please don’t hold back. I just need brutal honesty at this stage as he does not want to know and won’t ask.

    Grade 4 doesn't always mean all over the bones, my G4 is just spine, ribs and pelvis, lymph nodes, and one lung gleason 8 and 9 is about the same i was 8 i started on hormone inj's 1st May 2016 started cemo June 16 still living a normal life now people like me could live a normal life span...( Why no cemo)

    Hi Billy,

    Thanks for your message. I actually specifically asked what they meant by very widespread and they said it was in all bones including arms and legs but very significantly in the spine and ribs. They said they can’t do chemo as his bone marrow is already not strong as it has disease in it so chemo would be too dangerous unfortunately.
