Melanoma cancer

Hi,

My boyfriend is 31 and was initially diagnosed with stage 3b melanoma in October last year. He had surgery on his leg and then started Immunotherapy in February. Which he was going to have for a year.

Unfortunately, the immunotherapy didn’t work (the cancer grew in his leg) and gave him the worst possible side effect which was a swollen brain. He was really ill (slept 22 hour days for 6 weeks) he couldn’t walk and barely talked. This delayed the whole process as he couldn’t start a new treatment until he is better (he’s on the strongest steroids). He’s now been diagnosed with stage 4. He will have surgery on his leg mid June then they will need to find another treatment. The doctors are concerned they won’t be able to contain the cancer.

I’m incredibly sad, I just wondered if there was any hope? I don’t know what’s going to happen, I’m shocked that the cancer has grown so much in his leg as before he only had dots of it.

I just need to hear some positive news

  • Hi [@Hello256]‍

I'm so sorry to hear that your boyfriend's cancer has progressed and that he had such a bad reaction to the treatment. It sounds like it's been a very difficult time.

Hopefully once he is well enough to have the surgery, your boyfriend's Dr will be able to give you both some firmer answers about what the future may hold.

Keep in touch and let us know how things go.

Sending you both our best wishes,

  • hello, I’m so sorry to hear this. I lost my 41yr old mum to stage 4 melanoma 4 days ago. She was diagnosed at the end of January and deteriorated very fast. She also had immunotherapy but after three sessions they scanned her and saw that it wasn’t doing anything and the cancer has taken over pretty much her whole body. In her final weeks she was bed bound at home, then when a bed cane available at a hospice she was moved there then passed away just four days later. I’m sorry this isn’t more positive but I just wanted to share my story with you, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask me x

  • Hi Jenn,

Unfortunately nothing has worked out for him as the cancer has now spread everywhere. They're giving him a few weeks left to live
