Dads throat and tongue cancer

Hi there. Just a question I hope someone can answer for me. My dad is exactly half way through his radiotherapy and chemotherapy for throat and tongue cancer. As everyone knows it’s been a terrible time for him and his wife (mom) and me (son) from diagnosis to treatment. My question is how long after treatmeant will he have to wait for his results. Many thanks Marc.

  • Hi Marc and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry about your dad's diagnosis but I hope his treatment is going well so far and he isn't suffering from too many side effects. Only your dad's medical team will be able to answer this question so if you have your dad's permission maybe you could have a quick chat with them about this and anything else playing on your mind.

You may find reading through this discussion useful as well.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Marc, My husband has just finished his treatment for the same as your dad. With him and I think it's pretty standard , but he has to wait 12 weeks for the throat and tongue to get back to normal, which is why it takes 12 weeks-they re scan then I'd imagine a weeks wait-so about 13 weeks.

Good luck and hope your dads doing ok, it's a horrible treatment-or rather side effects but if it's to cure-i imagine it is? then it's worth it.

I know us and our daughters (aged 20 and 23) we both want them to continue with their lives and be happy and let us do the worrying and I'm sure your parents are the same, worrying won't help and hopefully your dad will get through and be ok anyway.

    Take care Joy
