Small Cell Lung Cancer & Brain Mets.

Hi there,

I don't really know how to start this sort of thing or how you're meant to do it.

My Nan was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in January, and then Brain Mets in March. The whole family is extremely devasted, she is my world. She has had three rounds of chemotherapy, and lung cancer has shrunk by 1/3. However, we are more concerned about the brain Mets, which we are waiting for an MRI next week to see if it has worked, as she has had severe head pain and a very strange episode over the weekend, she couldn't talk, walk, was very aggressive and had no understanding of anything, it was heartbreaking we thought that was the beginning of the end. However, the next day she woke up and it was an unbelievable change, we could not believe it, she is now better than she was even before she had this episode, although still pains in her head.

I know the prognosis on this cancer isn't good. but I was wondering if anyone had any experiences they could share. Did thatt episode she had mean the Mets have got worse, or that the chemo is working? as she has come out of it better.

Any responses would be much appreciated

Thanks X

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Cooper123 although I'm sorry to read about your nan's diagnosis.

Hopefully other members with family in a similar position to your nan will share their experiences with you soon but it may be worth having a chat about what happened with your nan's medical team as they will ultimately be in the best position to let you know what this means and whether the chemo is working or not.

Our cancer nurses are available by phone if you'd like to have a quik chat with them about this as well. You can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We'll have our fingers crossed the MRI brings good news next week.

    Kind regards,
