Partner has oesophageal cancer

Hi. I am new to the site. My husband was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer 2 yr ago. When diagnosed he was told there wasn't anything to be done to just go and make memories . We was told if he lived 3 months he would do amazing. He hasnt had any treatment at all as he had 2 heart attackes before his diagnosis and wasnt strong enough to undergo any treatment. 2 year later and my husband has been fighting this cancer with no help from professionals. He has really deteriated of late. He has lost lots of weight and he has lost his appetite. He is not with us most of the time it's as if he goes into some kind of trance. I can shout him numerous times and he doesnt here me. I have yo give him a good shake to bring him back. Is this a sign that he might be close to dying? I want to prepare myself. We have hospice support who give him iron and blood but it doesn't seem to help at all. Has anyone gone through anything simular to what we are experiencing. I'm wondering how much longer he can carry on like this. He literally drags himself out of bed and can barely walk he is so very thin just skin and bone. He  has had 2 really bad falls and I am very worried about him now xxx

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Christine although I'm sorry about your husband.

I hope the information we have on our website about dying with cancer helps you to prepare but it can be a tough read so it may be worth having someone with you when you look through it.

I wanted to put you in touch with [@Louise1967]‍ as her dad is in a similar position and you may find it helpful to talk with each other at this difficult time.

If you have any other questions our cancer nurses are just a phone call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Best wishes to you both,
