Cancer of the Larynx

Hi

My husband is 46 and has just been diagnosed with T3 cancer of the larynx.  His is in his 3rd week of radiotherapy treatment (he is doing 6 in total).  For the past 4 or 5 days he has needed to take pain killers before eating.  My question is, does the pain get increasingly worse and how will he manage eating.  And what is the next thing we can expect on this journey?

Thank you for any advice.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat DJM and I'm sorry to learn of your husband's recent diagnosis. The side effects of the treatment vary from person to person but one of the general side effects listed here is difficulty swallowing. There are some tips on that page, but if you have any other concerns you should talk to your consultant so they can work out how best to get around this.

All the best to you both,

  • Thank you for sending the link - I feel like a rabbit in headlights at the moment.  He's managing the pain with liquid paracetamol at the moment and his nurse has said they will move him on to stronger medication as and when he needs it.
