Hi everyone,
Hoping for some advice and reassurance from others with experience of laryngeal cancer and treatment of. My mum has been told somewhat unexpectedly that she has stage 3, maybe 4, larynx cancer and the consultant's advised treatment is a total laryngectomy.
He says a radiotherapy/chemo course of treatment would only have a 50% chance of success whereas the laryngectomy would be 90%.
He has already booked her in for the op in two weeks time but it feels rushed, drastic and so final. We only spent 10 minutes in his office being told this and now it is just happening and there is very little information to go on.
Are there any other laryngectomees able to advise on the impact of this operation and what it will mean for my mum's day to day life. She is 68 so still young, my dad is disabled so she's his primary carer and I am also currently pregnant so it's really been quite a blow for our family.
Thanks
