Triple negative breast cancer - do I get tested for BRAC1?

My mother has just had a mastectomy and the results are triple negative breast cancer and away to start chemotherapy. I have spoken with a few people who have said I would need to be referred for a check up for brac1? Is this the case as her specialist never mentioned anything to me about it. Thanks

  • Hi Relsmum1,

Welcome to the forum, and I'm very sorry to hear about your mother's diagnosis.

Your mother's consultant will be the best person to advise on this issue, although if you'd like to speak to one of our nurses, they are available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5). Please note they're not able to diagnose or give a medical opinion, but they're there if you'd find it useful to speak to someone about this.

Wishing you and your mother all the very best.

    Ben
